Staff Reporter The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a severe weather warning for the Free State and other parts of the country for Friday. In a statement issued on Thursday, SAWS said some parts of the province may experience damaging winds between 7am and 3pm this Friday. “The strong and gusty winds observed over the western parts of the Free State and North West provinces are expected to move eastward tomorrow (Friday),” said the SAWS. Titled the Risk Management Solution Programme, the initiative will be unveiled by Agriculture MEC William Bulwane in Wepener today. Staff Reporter The Kroonstad Regional Court has sentenced three thieves on eight counts of stealing copper cable. Eskom said in a statement the trio was sentenced to a total of 244 years in prison for crimes committed between March and June 2017. The accused were involved in eight incidents where copper cable to the value of R115 500 was stolen from the power company. They were arrested on June 4, 2017 by a private security company contracted by Eskom. They were charged for the theft of overhead copper conductors in the Kroonstad, Koppies and Allanridge areas. Staff Reporter The University of the Free State (UFS) has started treating a patient with advanced prostate cancer using a special treatment called Lutetium 177 PSMA (Lu-177 PSMA) therapy. The university said on Tuesday it was the first time that it was using the method to treat metastatic castrate-resistant prostate cancer (MCRPC) – an advanced stage of prostate cancer.
