The Free State Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has confirmed another outbreak of the foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in the town of Hertzogville, about 140km northwest of Bloemfontein. A statement issued by the department said this is in addition to current FMD outbreaks in Viljoenskroon, Marquard, Bethlehem and Harrismith. Two people have been confirmed missing in Jagersfontein following the collapse of a tailings dam at a local mine last Sunday. The latest victim has been confirmed as Shadrack Williams, 70. Initially, only one woman, Mantele Mokgatle, 50, could not be accounted for. The Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team based in Bethlehem has launched a manhunt for a couple believed to have duped several people in an alleged bogus investment scheme two years ago. The Hawks provincial spokesperson Captain Christopher Singo said Albert David Titus and Bonolo Millicent Titus are persons of interest in the failed scheme and appealed to the public to assist in locating them. Eskom has lost bulk supply to Centlec, the electricity distributor responsible for Jagersfontein, the national power utility said. A statement issued by Eskom provincial spokesperson Stefanie Jansen van Rensburg says the wall of a mining dam which burst around 6am this Sunday morning led to the area being flooded by mud from the dam. “Eskom’s Rietkuil Substation was also engulfed by the mud resulting in a total loss of bulk supply to Centlec,” she said in the statement.
