The death toll from last week’s crash involving a bus and a truck near Botshabelo has risen to nine after another passenger succumbed to injuries sustained from the accident.
The latest victim passed on at Moroka Hospital on Monday.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Free State Department of Health said a post-mortem had confirmed the death was due to the injuries the patient sustained from the accident involving a bus and a truck on the N8 road near Botshabelo last Thursday.
The bus, which was ferrying 62 passengers, was on its way to Bloemfontein when the collision occurred.
Seven people were declared dead on the scene of the accident
“The Free State Department of Health can confirm after a post-mortem was conducted and results received, that another person has died as a result of the injuries sustained from the N8 horrific accident between a bus and a truck that occurred on the morning of Thursday, 10 November 2022,” provincial health spokesperson Mondli Mvambi said.
“The latest death happened on Monday, 14 November 2022 after being re-admitted at hospital on Sunday, 13 November 2022.
“This now brings the death tally of this accident to nine people.” – Staff Reporter
