Fidel Castro Building in Bloemfontein has been closed once again after an official from the Office of the Premier tested positive for COVID-19.

A statement issued by Setjhaba Maphalla from the Office of the Premier Thursday evening said the building will be closed for decontamination until Monday morning.

“The Fidel Castro Building . . . will be closed from 9 July . . . at 7PM, due to another case of COVID-19 which has surfaced,” read part of the statement.

“The decontamination and deep cleaning of the building will run from tomorrow, 10 July 2020, and continue throughout the weekend.

“The building will be reopened on Monday, 13 July 2020, once the necessary contact tracing and screening processes have also been done.”

This is the second time in as many weeks that the building has been closed for disinfection against the coronavirus.

In the last instance, an employee from the education department had tested positive.

The employee from the Office of the Premier is said to be based on the ninth floor of the building.

Fidel Castro building houses staff from the Office of the Premier as well as the departments of Public Works and Infrastructure, Education and Treasury.
