Water and Sanitation Minister Senzo Mchunu is meeting Free State municipalities and various water authorities in a bid to get a better understanding of the perennial challenges faced by either party which have resulted in some parts of the province not having running water for several days.
A statement released by his office says the August 24-26 visit will entail discussions on matters of governance, implementation, service delivery and finance towards the provision of water and sanitation.
“The minister will interact with the provincial water and sanitation management on challenges related to water and sanitation delivery in both Free State and Northern Cape,” reads part of the statement.
“The minister will also meet with the relevant water boards to assess challenges encountered by the boards in delivering water projects in their areas of operation,” it added.
Mchunu is expected in Welkom on Wednesday where he will meet with Department of Water and Sanitation Free State and Northern Cape management, Bloemwater, Sedibeng Water, the two premiers and the Mangaung Metro Municipality executive mayor, among others.
The minister will also travel to Maluti-A-Phofung on Thursday to address the long-running water challenges faced by the municipality.
