A Bloemfontein woman is said to have handed over her two-month-old baby to a stranger at a local clinic after she was duped into believing children were not allowed inside.
In a statement release Saturday evening, Free State police spokesperson Brigadier Sam Makhele said the incident happened on Thursday when Kgomotso King, 18, went to collect her medication at Bloemspruit Clinic at about 3:45pm.
“Another lady who was also in the queue told her that babies are not allowed in the clinic,” Makhele said.
King is then said to have asked the unknown woman, whom she believed to be a patient, to hold her son, Bokang while she went inside.
“When she was done she found that the (woman) had disappeared with her son,” Makhele said.
The woman did not immediately report the matter to the clinic or the police but went to Motheo FM to ask for assistance.
She only reported the matter to the police at around 10:15pm.
A case of kidnapping was registered for further investigation and police are appealing to anyone with information that could assist to contact Warrant Officer Korney Van Zyl on 083 456 5653 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
