Free State police have launched a probe after two men were found dead close to the entrance to Tempe Military Base in Bloemfontein this morning.
The lifeless bodies of the two men, believed to be aged between 30 and 35, were discovered lying a stone’s throw from each at the corner of Furstenberg and Mellville streets in Brandwag, with no visible external injuries on them.
A South African Defence Force (SANDF) staff sergeant called the police to attend the scene.
“Earlier today, the police at Parkweg Police Station received a call from the SANDF staff sergeant reporting the death of two people in Brandwag, Bloemfontein,” provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele said in a statement.
“The officer indicated that he received information on two lifeless bodies lying on an open veld near Tempe Military Base entrance.
“The police responded swiftly and on arrival at corner Furstenberg and Mellville streets in Brandwag, they found bodies of two males lying a stone throw apart.”
According to the police, one of the bodies was lying underneath a tree believed to be a sleeping place for homeless people.
“The paramedics arrived at the scene and on examination found no external injuries on the bodies apart from the foaming on the mouth of one of the deceased,” Makhele said.
“An inquest case will be registered and investigation conducted to determine the cause of death of both the deceased.”
