Mangaung Police Station in Phahameng, Bloemfontein, has been temporarily closed after one of its members tested positive for COVID-19.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo said in a statement released Tuesday evening that communities served by the police station will now be assisted from a community service centre operating from the Lesley Monnanyane Hall, behind the Home Affairs offices in Moshoeshoe Road.
“The building will be undergoing decontamination and the community will be informed when the station will be operational again,” said Naidoo.
The police station becomes the second one in the city to be temporarily closed due to a COVID-19 scare after Batho Police Station was also closed briefly last month.
It becomes the third in the province after Bethlehem Police Station was also closed last month.
Residents are advised to call 10111 for all emergencies and complaints which will be attended to by Mangaung Cluster Operational Command Centre members.
The telephone lines at Mangaung Police Station community service centre will not be accessible for the duration of closure.
