The police’s Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit is looking for two suspects after a teenage girl was raped in Wesseslsbron two years ago.
Police say the incident happened on January 4, 2020 at about 20:15.
The girl, who was 15 years old at the time of the incident, was walking from her friend’s place to her home when she was approached by two unknown men.
Police spokesperson sergeant Sinah Mpakane said the men allegedly grabbed her and threatened to kill her if she screamed.
“They covered her mouth with a jersey and told her not to scream or they will stab her,” said Mpakane.
They then took her to a bridge close to a graveyard where they raped her.
“They instructed her to take her clothes off and took turns raping her.
“When they were done they took her to an informal settlement near Matamong Section and threatened to kill her.
“One of the men told her that he was able to convince his friend not to kill her and that from that moment on she was now his girlfriend.”
The man is said to have asked her to give him information about a gangster group called Mapotoketsi and she told them that she didn’t know anything about the group.
When they got closer to some shack, the other man raped her again.
When he was done, the two suspects left her there and she ran home.
On arrival she told her older sister what had happened and both went to the Wesselsbron police station to report the matter.
A case of rape was then registered but the suspects remain at large.

Meanwhile, police in Welkom have launched a manhunt for three unknown men believed to be involved in an attempted robbery and murder of a 47-year-old woman which took place along Tempest Road in Dagbreek, Welkom, on Tuesday at about 19:00.
It is alleged that the victim, a Chinese national, was coming from her business driving home when she was accosted by three unknown men who were waiting for her at the gate.
One of the suspects allegedly blocked the gate and the other two followed her inside the courtyard where they cornered her while inside her vehicle.
The vehicle’s window was smashed and the she was instructed to hand over cash.
She allegedly reversed the vehicle away from the suspects and they fired shots at her.
The woman was fatally wounded by some of the bullets and the suspects fled on foot.
Emergency service personnel were summoned to the scene and the she was certified dead on the scene.
