Free State Premier Sisi Ntombela has appointed Mxolisi Abraham Dukwana the new Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs.

A statement issued Friday by Ntombela’s spokesperson Sello Pietersen said the appointment is with immediate effect.

Dukwana, who was sworn in as a Member of the Provincial Legislature (MPL) on September 28, replaces Thembeni Skully Nxangisa who has been moved to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Agriculture MEC William Kwekwe Bulwane takes over from Malambule Samuel Mashinini – who is now out of the provincial cabinet – as the MEC for Police Roads and Transport.

“These changes are effected in an effort to ensure that our provincial government continues to provide services for the people of the province,” read part of the statement announcing the changes.

Dukwana was officially sworn-in as an MEC today by Justice Philip Loubser at the High Court.

Dukwana is no stranger to the Executive Council of the Free State, having served previously as MEC for Education, MEC for Safety and Community Liaison as well as MEC for Tourism, Environmental and Economic Affairs, in previous administrations of government.

He has also served as the Speaker of the Free State Legislature.

“In the current social and economic development landscape, ours remains a concerted fight against poverty, unemployment, and inequality in our quest to build the Free State we want,” said Ntombela.

The Premier thanked Mashinini for his contribution in his previous position and wished him well in his future endeavours and wished the other MECs well in their new roles.
