The bail hearing for a Bloemfontein man accused of killing his own parents and a sibling has been postponed to next week after he was reportedly put in isolation.

Jacobus Visser, 42, was expected in court on Thursday to start his bail bid after making his initial court appearance last week.

National Prosecuting Authority regional spokesperson Phaladi Shuping told The Free Stater the suspect could not attend the hearing as he had been isolated.

“Jacobus Visser’s case was postponed in his absence to 17 September because he’s in isolation,” he said.

Shuping could not immediately confirm if Visser had tested positive for COVID-19 or had been exposed to someone who tested positive to the acute respiratory disease.

The suspect was arrested after the police were alerted to a domestic homicide at 206 Raymond Mhlaba Street in Bloemfontein.

On arrival, they found three bodies in the house.

The deceased were his 68-year-old father, 65-year-old mother and 40-year-old sibling.

The three were found in the bedrooms with gunshot wounds to the head, the police said at the time.

A revolver allegedly used in the shooting was placed on top of the mother’s body.

Meanwhile, the police in Fouriesburg are investigating three cases of murder following the discovery of three bodies of unknown men near Joel farm in Fouriesburg.

The bodies were discovered on Thursday by an employee at the farm who then alerted his employer and the police.

In a statement, provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Sam Makhele said upon arrival at the farm situated near the Caledoonspoort  port of entry, the police found two bodies at the farm and the third body in the river.

He said knobkerries suspected to have been used to kill victims were found on the scene.

According to witness, the victims were seen in the morning with three police officers allegedly from Lesotho and were apparently following information about stock theft that occurred in that country.

“All three victims are Lesotho citizens and they are estimated to be between the ages of 24 and 40,” said Makhele in the statement.

The motive for the killing is unknown, no arrest has been made and the police are appealing to anyone with information on what could have transpired to come forward.
