THE 2024 Free State Fashion Week (FSFW) successfully concluded in Bloemfontein over the weekend, highlighting the best of local and national talent in the fashion and lifestyle industry.

This prestigious event, which serves as a platform for both established and emerging designers, drew attention to the vibrant creativity, culture, and diversity that South Africa has to offer.

The MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Ntombizanele Sifuba, who attended the event, congratulated the organisers for their successful execution of the fashion week.

In her address, she praised the initiative for its role in promoting culture, creativity and the artistic endeavors of South African designers.

“I urge you to continue enhancing the cultural content of your designs, ensuring they reflect the spirit of African identity and contribute to the renaissance of our continent,” Sifuba said.

“The economic upliftment of fashion design, along with the job creation that follows, is undeniable.

“Initiatives like these, which align with government priorities of economic growth and job creation, will continue to receive the support of the department.”

The FSFW attracted a diverse crowd, with models strutting down the runway in a mix of traditional and modern designs, celebrating Africa’s rich heritage while embracing contemporary trends.

Designers showcased collections that emphasised innovation and sustainability, resonating with both local and international audiences.

The FSFW has quickly become a significant fixture on the South African fashion calendar, providing a stage for young designers to break into the competitive industry while celebrating the uniqueness of Free State culture. – Staff Reporter
