IN a bid to promote the Free State’s unique tourist attractions and drive economic growth, Premier MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae and Minister of Tourism Patricia de Lille officially launched the province’s Summer Tourism Campaign on Tuesday at De Oude Kraal Country Estate, just outside Bloemfontein.

The initiative aims to elevate the Free State as a sought-after destination for both local and international tourists.

De Lille emphasised the province’s “untapped potential” in her address, underscoring the region’s capacity to generate employment through tourism.

“Tourism has the potential to create jobs, and the Free State has a number of attractions which we must utilise. It is not a province to drive through but rather a province to drive to,” she remarked, noting the natural, historical and cultural richness that sets the Free State apart.

Letsoha-Mathae also encouraged visitors to experience the diverse sites that make the province distinctive, including the Vredefort Dome, Gariep Dam Nature Reserve and Mangaung’s Naval Hill.

The premier highlighted the Free State’s central location and accessibility, describing it as “an ideal destination with a unique blend of natural beauty, historical sites and vibrant cultural experiences” for those seeking adventure, relaxation, or immersion in South African heritage.

The event also saw the attendance of the Member of the Executive Council Responsible for Finance, Economic Development, and Tourism, reinforcing the provincial government’s commitment to leveraging tourism for economic development. – Staff Reporter
