THE Central University of Technology (CUT) recently received a donation of R2.4 million from the Kgolo Community Development Trust to help ease the financial burden on graduates from the John Taole Gaetsewe district in the Northern Cape.
CUT vice-chancellor and principal, Professor Pamela Dube, expressed her gratitude for the donation, emphasising the challenges in higher education funding that so many students face, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
“Your financial contribution represents a significant investment in our young people’s future and is a beacon of hope for CUT graduates from the Northern Cape,” she remarked.
“We are confident that your support will have a profound impact beyond the walls of the university, inspiring industries and communities to join our cause.”
Dr Oupa Nkagisang, representing the Kgolo Community Development Trust, highlighted the organisation’s mission to foster community impact and upliftment.
“Are you the light that can shine and impact other people?” he asked, urging others to be sources of positive change.
“If you impact a person’s life, you’re impacting a far greater number of people who are dependent on them.”
The funding has already directly benefited graduates like Dimpho Sechogela and Onthatile Gondwe, who received R223 000 and R294 000, respectively, to settle their academic debts.
Expressing his deep gratitude, Gondwe said: “I thank the Kgolo Community Development Trust and CUT for paying my school debt. Next month, I will be starting my first job as a graduate intern. Thank you a hundred times over.”
Similarly, Sechogela, filled with hope for the future, stated: “As a girl from humble beginnings, I am deeply thankful. I aspire to give back to the future generation of this country and especially to my hometown.”
This donation marks a crucial investment in the education and future of CUT graduates, setting a legacy of community support and opportunity.
Professor Dube also recently contributed R188 800 to the university’s Student Representative Council to establish a food bank, an initiative will provide meal tickets and vouchers to students in need. – Staff Reporter
