Another clinic in the Free State has been temporarily closed after a health official at the facility tested positive for COVID-19.

A joint statement issued by the Ngwathe Local Municipal and the Free State Department of Health Friday morning said Parys Clinic and the municipality’s administration building have been closed with immediate effect after the coronavirus infection was confirmed but services will not be disrupted.

“The health services will not be interrupted as the Parys Clinic is running its operations from a mobile health service in the same vicinity where the municipality also performs its operations,” read part of the statement issued by Ngwathe municipal spokesperson Steve Naale.

“We guarantee the people of Ngwathe that services will not be interrupted as we have set up alternative service points whilst the affected offices are decontaminated, contact tracing done and affected officials are handled in line with workplace occupational health and safety COVID-19 guidelines which require risk assessments to be done,” the statement added.

Earlier this month, Dr Che Guevara Clinic in Metsimaholo Local Municipality was also temporarily closed for decontamination after one of its staffers tested positive for COVID-19.

The Free State has recorded about 976 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

There have been 11 deaths and about 318 people have recovered from the disease in the province.
