An eight-year-old boy was attacked and killed by a neighbour’s dog while playing in his family yard in Bloemfontein at the weekend.
The shocking incident happened in the Vista Park suburb on Saturday afternoon.
According to the police, the dog, a pitbull, allegedly escaped from its enclosure, jumped over the fence and attacked the boy.
After paramedics attended to him, he was declared dead at the scene having suffered bite wounds on the neck and chest.
“. . . Mangaung Police received a distress call from a witness about an alleged dog that was mauling a child in Vista Park,” the police statement said.
“Police rushed to the scene and, on arrival, found emergency personnel already on the scene attending to the severely injured child.
“The eight-year-old boy lying next to the garage door in his parents’ yard was certified dead at the scene after he suffered bite wounds on the neck and chest.”
The dog was reportedly spotted nearby covered in blood and put down by the police.
Mangaung police opened an inquest and investigations continue, with no arrests made yet. – Staff Reporter

Here in Phuthaditjhaba my neighbour has two Pitbulls! One day I was standing on my kitchen’s door and one of those Pit bulls came right to me and pushes me while entering my kitchen door and stroll around my kitchen So I don’t know what was it looking for then after that it went outside and left!
