The ANC in the Free State has instructed its regional structures to compile reports on members believed to be working against the party so it can take disciplinary action against them.
A statement issued by the party’s Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) on Thursday following a two-day ordinary meeting said the party had noted with concern action by some members who are working against the ANC and its policy position.
“The regional structures have been instructed to compile reports on members who de-campaign the ANC especially during the past local government election,” read part of the statement sent out by IPC spokesperson Oupa Khoabane.
Last year, the ANC suspended its chief whip in the Free State provincial Legislature, Vusi Tshabalala, on allegations of working with the opposition ahead of the municipal elections.
He faced two charges of organising and participating in a meeting which discussed the possibility of the party working with the opposition in the November council elections as well as trying to bring the party into disrepute.
He was however acquitted by the party’s provincial disciplinary committee last month as there was no solid evidence to back the allegations.
“The IPC reiterated the decision of the ANC that any member who works against the organisation is automatically expelled from the organisation.
“The IPC is further concerned about members who use social media to attack each other, leak organisational information and attack the image of the ANC.
“This conduct is against the ANC social media policy and the IPC resolved that disciplinary action will be taken against such members,” said the party.
The regional and branch-level structures whose mandate had lapsed were also given a new mandate.
“The ANC in the province is in the process of renewing the organisation and preparing for its conferences.
“In order not to create a political vacuum on the current work of the ANC, the IPC immediately appointed the IRCs (Interim Regional Committees),” according to the party. – Staff Reporter
