Mangaung executive mayor Mxolisi Siyonzana will table the metro’s budget vote for the 2022/23 financial year on Friday at the City Hall at 10am.
The municipality, which has battled significant financial and service delivery failures over the past few years, was placed under national administration in April following a cabinet decision.
It is presently being run by an interim management led by Tebogo Motlashuping as the acting city manager.
The team has been given an initial period of six months to turn around the municipality which has been dogged by endless power struggles which have seen Siyonzana taking the speaker, council and former acting city manager Mzingisi Nkungwana to court.
This after council had voted in favour of extending Nkungwana’s contract as acting city manager.
Siyonzana wanted the Free State High Court to interdict Nkungwana from carrying out his duties city manager and not set foot at the municipal premises since his contract as director for social services ended on March 31, 2022 and therefore deemed a non-employee of the municipality.
The urgent court application was struck off the roll.
Following the placing of the municipality under national administration, all executives have to seek the approval of the interim management team before implementing any decisions. – Staff Reporter
