Two suspects believed to be part of an armed trio that robbed the Wesselsbron Post Office on Thursday have been arrested.
Lejweleputswa district police spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng said the two were arrested in Welkom after police activated a 72-hour turnaround plan to track down the criminals.
“The team worked around the clock and a vehicle that matched a description (given to the police) was spotted in the Welkom CBD and stopped by members of the Welkom Flying Squad,” Thakeng said in a statement.
“A 32-year-old white male who was driving the vehicle and a 37-year-old suspect were arrested for business robbery. The white Toyota Camry and one Galaxy tablet were seized,” he added.
The Free Stater earlier reported that the post office manager, two employees and a security officer were forced to the back offices of the building by the suspected robbers who were wearing police masks.
They were tied up at gunpoint and the manager was forced to open the safe and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken.
The suspects were seen leaving in a white Toyota Camry with Botswana registration driven by a white male.
Investigations continue and the suspects will appear in the Wesselsbron Magistrates Court soon.
