Three armed suspects wearing police masks robbed a manager, two employees and a security officer at the Wesselsbron Post Office at gun point on Thursday morning.
Lejweleputswa district police spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng said in a statement the trio made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
“At 07:45 the manager of Wesselsbron Post Office was with two employees and a security officer when they were forced to get to the back offices of the business premises,” read part of the statement.
“They were tied up at gunpoint. The manager was forced to open the safe and an undisclosed amount of cash was robbed.
“The three suspects were seen leaving the scene in a white Toyota Camry with Botswana registration driven by a white male.
“A case of armed robbery has been registered for further investigation.”
Thakeng asked anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the bogus cops to contact Detective Captain Tieho Flyman of Provincial Organised Crime Investigation on 082 536 2683 or police emergency number 08600 10111.
Meanwhile, Ladybrand police have arrested two suspects in Manyatseng township after the body of an elderly person was found with multiple stab wounds.
In a separate statement, eastern Free State police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring said the body was found along Matleleng Road in the township in the early hours of Thursday.
“At about 04:30 police were busy conducting crime prevention duties when they received a complaint of an unknown person found lying dead on the street . . .” said Mophiring.
“On arrival at the scene they found a 60-year-old man with stab wounds on the neck and back of his body.
“The members made inquiries from community members who revealed what had happened and the people allegedly involved.”
The two suspects were traced and found at a house at Metampelong section in the township and were immediately arrested.
“They were found in possession of a grass cutter and a knife. The exhibits were seized.
“It’s further alleged that the motive behind the killing was robbery that wasn’t successful and led to the murder,” the police spokesperson explained.
He said the two suspects, aged 24 and 28, are expected to appear before the Ladybrand Magistrate Court this Friday facing a charge of murder.
