A man has been shot and wounded after he was found inside the SABC building in Bloemfontein in the early hours of Sunday.
In a statement, SABC Free State regional operations manager Mandla Mbusi says when a security guard came from patrol, he saw a man through the security cameras from the control room on the studio side.
The officer, according to Mbuli, investigated the apparent security breach and that is when the intruder fought with the guard.
The officer called for a backup and the intruder was shot.
Police were then called in.
The incident becomes the third major threat reported at a national key point in the country since the beginning of the year.
On January 2, a 49-year-old man was arrested after a large fire severely damaged the Parliament building in Cape Town.
The man, who remains in custody, was allegedly arrested while sleeping outside the burning building on suspicion that he started the fire after breaching security and entering the high security precinct.
The fire started on the third floor of the National Council of Provinces building before spreading to offices, the gymnasium and the National Assembly.
The fire completely destroyed the new National Assembly building. Some floors suffered water and smoke damage.
Three days later on January 5, a 36-year-old man was arrested at the Constitutional Court in Johannesburg for breaking windows and glass doors using a hammer.
Rocks were also thrown at the building.
The perpetrator refused to stop attacking the building when ordered by the police and he only stopped after a warning shot was fired.
