Local events management company Lazy Fair is set to host a charity golf event on Thursday in support of the Bloemfontein Equestrian Centre.
Lazy Fair director Martin Nombita told The Free Stater they found it important to assist the organisation because of the work it does to help children with special needs.
“The Bloemfontein Equestrian Centre caught our attention with the good work that they do with children with autism and ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) through horse riding activities,” said Nombita.
“The equestrian centre is truly doing an impressive job. The stalls and horses are high maintenance. We are hoping to raise R10 000 and we are sure the money will be put to good use,” he added.
The charity event, which will be played over 18 holes at the Schoemanpark Golf Club, seeks to attract support from individuals and the corporate sector.
Some of the notable golfers expected to take part in the event include Cooperative Governance MEC Mxolisi Dukwana, Acting Chief Whip of the Free State Legislature Thabo Meeko and Mangaung executive mayor Mxolisi Siyonzana.
“The main activity for the day is raising funds but there will be a lot more entertainment and a golf clinic to introduce those who don’t play golf to the game,” Nombita said.
Horses are often used to alleviate some of the some of the challenges faced by children with autism and ADHD.
They have been found to be good for creating a mood-boosting experience to help them to overcome developmental difficulties.
