The ANC Youth League Free State Provincial Congress Preparatory Committee says 10 young men and women under the age of 35 are vying for positions as mayors in different municipalities across the province.
In a statement, the interim provincial youth body said the youths will be undergoing interviews together with other candidates and were confident they would make the grade.
“Processes of candidate selection are important activities that must be undertaken to ensure that we get the best candidates possible to address our current weaknesses . . . local government,” read part of the statement.
“Among the key principles for the local government candidate selection process is to achieve 25 percent youth representation in all councils,” it added.
Those going for interviews as mayoral candidates are: Zingisa Mgawuli – Mohokare Local Municipality; Xolani Tseletsele – Kopanong Local Municipality; Sista Maleho – Tswelopele Local Municipality; Tshepo Molale – Tokologo Local Municipality; Setshwana Chabedi – Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality; Vusimusi Thela – Phumelela Local Municipality; Victoria De Beer – Ngwathe Local Municpality; Buyisiwe Makoba – Nketoana Local Municipality; Mokhethi Sekhejane – Nala Local Municipality; and Mmamajeremane Semakale – Moqhaka Local Municipality.
The ANC remains the leading party in most Free State municipalities after securing 50.61 percent of the total vote in the recent local government elections.
