Police in Mangaung Metro are looking for a silver Toyota Yaris with Lesotho registration number plates which was allegedly involved in kidnapping and robbing a student from the University of the Free State on Wednesday.
In a statement released on Thursday, provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Sam Makhele said the incident happened along Nelson Mandela Drive at around 6pm.
He said the 19-year-old student was walking from a mall when she was kidnapped and robbed of her belongings by armed suspects travelling in the Toyota Yaris.
“She alleges that suddenly, a silver Toyota Yaris stopped next to her and a . . . male on the passenger side pointed a firearm towards her and instructed her to get into the vehicle,” said Makhele, adding the second suspect then drove off.
The two suspects then robbed the victim of her Huawei P8 cellphone, a bank card and other valuables.
“They then dropped her at the entrance of the University of the Free State,” he added.
A case of kidnapping and armed robbery was opened at the Parkweg Police Station.
Makhele appealed to members of the public who might have information that can help the police find the suspects to contact Sergeant Mvula Khene on 076 7578 241.
