A director of a company called Pit Dog Trading who is facing charges of fraud allegedly committed at Mafube Local Municipality has been granted bail by the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court.
Tumahole Jeffrey Mokoena, 42, was released on a bail R7 000 and told to return to court on October 6 when he will appear with his co-accused, Nkabi Andrew Hlubi, 43.
Hlubi appeared before the same court last Friday on charges of fraud, uttering and corruption.
It is alleged that during 2015, Hlubi who was the acting municipal manager of Mafube municipality, awarded tenders to Pit Dog Trading.
According to Hawks spokesperson Captain Christopher Singo, it is further alleged that Mokoena forged and submitted fraudulent documents at the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) in order to be awarded a higher CIDB grading.
“After every payment made from the municipality to Pit Dog Trading the director of the company would then deposit a portion of the money to Hlubi’s bank account ranging from R1-million,” said Singo.
All the tenders that were awarded are estimated at R21 million.
The matter was then reported to the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation unit based in Bloemfontein for further investigation.
Hlubi handed himself over to the investigators and was formally charged before making his first court appearance.
Hlubi is out on R10 000 bail.
