Centlec has dismissed as unfounded claims that the local power distributor’s chief executive officer Malefane Sekoboto sacked an official who was allegedly blocking him from manipulating the awarding of tenders.
In a statement, the company said the messages published on social media and also circulated via SMS were unfounded and simply bent on tarnishing its image and that of Sekoboto.
“Centlec has noted with great regret another attempt by agents of dark forces to discredit the name and the integrity of the CEO . . . Mr Malefane Sekoboto,” it said.
The company said an SMS message originating from an unknown number is making the rounds on social media making spurious allegations.
The message, according to the company, reads in part: “Allegations surface: Centlc CEO bullied and fired Ms Williams to access Supply Chain. Mr. Sekoboto is alleged to be requesting R100k in order to give out tenders.”
But Centlec dismissed the claim saying the message is intended to defocus and cast aspersions on the personal integrity of the CEO and Centlec.
“We appeal to anyone with valid, substantial and accurate claims regarding such allegations to approach the law-enforcement agencies and report the alleged criminal activities.
“It should be noted that the Centlec CEO is not part of the supply chain management processes and has no role in it.
“Centlec has committed itself to deal and fight any form of corruption both internally and externally . . . We dismiss this allegation with the contempt it deserves.”
