Police in Thabong, Welkom, are urgently seeking community assistance in tracing an eight-year-old girl who was allegedly abducted from school on Monday by people who are now demanding R50 000 from her family.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Bokamoso Shabe was abducted from Mantshebo Primary School in Jerusalem Park by an unknown woman at around 13:30 and has not been seen again.
Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Sam Makhele said in a statement the girl’s family has been receiving calls from people demanding cash for her safe return.
“The grandmother of the child was contacted at 15:00 by an unknown man who called himself Aubrey demanding an amount of R50 000 and that they will kill the child if they do not receive the money,” said Makhele.
“(On Tuesday morning) at 08:45 the grandmother received a call again from the same number where a woman by the name of Nthabeleng also demanded R50 000 in cash for the safe return of the child,” he added.
On the day of her disappearance, Bokamoso was wearing a school uniform, a white shirt, grey and white jersey, grey skirt and black shoes.
She is dark in complexion.
Police say anyone with information that could assist in tracing the suspects should contact Warrant Officer Tshediso Qhamakoane on 082 375 6355 or call Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or alternatively send information via the MySAPS App.
In a separate incident, Thabong police are looking for 13-year-old Nthabiseng Elisa Molete who went missing on June 12.
The girl’s mother told the police, two days later when she made a missing person’s report, that Nthabiseng left home at about 18:00 and never returned.
She was last seen wearing black trousers, yellow lumber jacket and black grasshopper shoes.
She is in Grade 7 at Maremaphofu Primary School and she usually visits friends but all of them were visited but she could not be traced.
Anyone with information on Nthabiseng’s whereabouts should contact Detective Sergeant Sethabathaba Pakela of Thabong Detective Services on 071 22 18149 or 057 910 2441 during office hours or visit room number D45, Thabong Detective Offices, or call the police emergency number 08600 10111.
