Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA) has donated R3 million towards the funding of student bursaries at the University of the Free State (UFS).
In a statement, the company said it hopes the funding will go a long way in assisting UFS students that require financial aid.
It said the COVID-19 pandemic had worsened the well-being and security of students in accessing adequate funding to complete their studies.
“The UFS serves more than 40 000 students on three campuses across seven faculties and through partnerships with CCBSA, these students will thrive and further create a pathway for student success and integration into the workplace,” read part of the statement.
“The close relationship between CCBSA and the University of the Free State continues to grow and allows us to play a significant role in shaping the minds and lives of young people,” the company added.
CCBSA says besides funding, its senior officials have been giving development lectures as a way of giving back to the student community.
It says the guest lectures have continued even during the COVID-19 pandemic virtually and touch young people’s lives.
“CCBSA looks forward to more frequent and meaningful engagements and collaborations with the university and further connect with our student community in our unfolding partnership,” it said.
The UFS welcomed the donation saying it will have a lasting impact on the lives and wellbeing not only of those students but also their families and communities.
