Coca-Cola to train 44 youths

Staff Reporter

Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA) says it will train at about 44 youths in the Free State this year in different aspects of its operations in order to give them workplace experience.

The company says the Pivotal Programme Intake for 2021 is part of its efforts to create inclusive growth opportunities for communities, particularly for women and the youth.

In a statement, CCBSA says it will provide learnership opportunities across key areas of the business, specifically commercial sales, manufacturing and technical packaging and logistics which includes warehousing.

“These are unemployed learnerships where individuals are given the opportunity to complete a SETA-approved programme but also obtain and get practical exposure to a Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) environment like that of CCBSA,” said the company.

It said in previous years, these learnership programmes have been used as a critical channel to identify potential talent that can be absorbed into key frontline roles in respective functions.

Willie Van Wyk, CCBSA HR business partner based in Bloemfontein, says in the statement the company is fully committed to supporting youth empowerment and inspiring the youths to better themselves in its operations.

“The learnerships . . . promote diversity and inclusion with the main aim of appointing females and males from under-represented groups,” said Van Wyk.

“We would like to wish the Class of 2021 all the best and request that each of our inland employees assist and guide our learners in the coming months for them to successfully complete the programme,” he added.

CCBSA is a South African company which began operating in July 2016 after the merger of six non-alcoholic ready-to-drink bottling operations.

It employs over 7 000 people at 13 manufacturing facilities across the country.
