Free State Education MEC Tate Makgoe is expected to announce the provincial results for the 2020 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations on Tuesday morning.

His delivery will follow the announcement of the national results by Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga on Monday evening.

Provincial education spokesperson Howard Ndaba said this year’s announcement will take a hybrid approach comprising six events across the province.

“In an effort to comply with the current alert Level 3 regulations stipulating that no more than 50 percent of a venue’s capacity may be occupied at a gathering, only a limited number of guests will be permitted in all the venues,” Ndaba said in a statement on Sunday.

He said the main event at the University of the Free State’s South Campus in Bloemfontein will be simulcast to each of the five districts in the province from 9am.

This means select groups of people will be allowed at the district satellite viewing venues that will get their feed from the campus studio.

“The announcement of the provincial results will be live streamed . . . with minimal number of attendees, not exceeding 50 at each of the six venues,” Ndaba added.

The event will also be broadcast live on eight community radio stations, Lesedi FM and various social media platforms.

In Motheo district, the event will be held at Tsoseletso Secondary School in Bloemfontein.

In Thabo Mofutsanyana district people will gather at Ntsu Secondary School in Bethlehem; Lejweleputswa district at Leseding Secondary School in Welkom; Fezile Dabi district at Samuel Sebego Paki Secondary School in Vredefort; and Xhariep district at Ipetleng Secondary School in Petrusburg.

Premier Sisi Ntombela, provincial education department head Tsoarelo Malakoane, other senior government officials and sponsors of the events are expected to join the MEC for the special announcement.

In 2019, the Free State outperformed all other provinces to claim the top spot with a pass rate of 88.4 percent, followed by Gauteng with 87.2 percent.

The North West followed closely with 86.8 percent while the Western Cape was at 82.3 percent; KwaZulu-Natal 81.3 percent and Mpumalanga 80.3 percent.

The Northern Cape was seventh with 76.5 percent; the Eastern Cape 76.5 percent and Limpopo 73.2 percent.
