Family receives mysterious message about missing daughter

taff Reporter

A Welkom family has been left wondering about the safety of their daughter after a stranger recently reached out to them saying she was safe.

Tsholofelo Dineo Makhubu, a 26-year-old IT student at the Central University of Technology, left her family home in Riebeekstad, Welkom, on November 20, 2020 and has not made contact with anyone.

Her father has told the police that when she left the house at about 11am, she took some of her clothes.

It’s not clear where she said she was going.

Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Sam Makhele said in a statement the family recently received a message on social media from a person called Katleho, who claimed to have seen her, saying that she is alright.

“She was last seen by an unknown male named ‘Katleho’, who notified the family via social media from Bloemfontein Phase 6 on Monday, 11th January 2021 that Tsholofelo is safe and well,” said Makhele.

It could not be established from the message whether the young woman is living in Bloemfontein or not.

It was also not clear how Katleho is related to the CUT student and the reason for his assurance to the family.

Welkom police are now appealing to anyone who may know the whereabouts of Tsholofelo to come forward and assist.

Police say she is of medium built, about 1.65 metres tall and brown in complexion with brown eyes.

She has a dove tattoo at the back of her neck, black afro hair, spaced teeth and thin lips.

Tsholofelo speaks southern Sotho, English and Afrikaans.

Anyone with information on Tsholofelo’s whereabouts may contact Warrant Officer Malebo Mahlatsi on 072 229 1034.
