Thaba Nchu police have retrieved a headless body of an unknown man from a dam at the Rietfontein Trust.
Free State police spokesperson Brigadier Sam Makhele said the police were called to the scene after a community member noticed a body floating in the dam.
“The body . . . was retrieved and upon inspection, police noticed that the victim was beheaded,” he said in a statement.
Makhele said the deceased was wearing black leggings, of medium built and dark in complexion.
“A case of murder has been registered for further investigation. The victim is unknown and cannot be identified at this stage as his head is yet to be found,” said the police spokesperson.
Meanwhile, two foreign nationals were arrested on Monday after police received information that a truck had been hijacked in Botshabelo, east of Bloemfontein.
It is alleged that the truck, which belongs to a Chinese businessman, was hijacked while on its way from Bloemfontein on the N8 road between Botshabelo and Thaba Nchu, carrying goods worth an estimated R270 000.
The owner of the truck reported the truck missing after he could not get hold of the driver and his crew.
With the help of a vehicle tracking company, the truck was traced to Botshabelo’s H-Section.
The Selosesha Tactical Reaction Team members working together with the tracking company found the suspects busy offloading the truck.
The two foreigners, aged 35 and 32, were arrested and charged with truck hijacking.
The pair will appear in the Botshabelo Magistrates Court soon for truck hijacking and for violating the Immigration Act.
