Free State Agriculture and Rural Development MEC William Bulwane has described as senseless the latest farm attacks in which three farmers were killed in separate incidents in the province.
The latest incident involving a 56-year-old farmer and his 26-year-old son happened in the early hours of Friday.
“We hope that the perpetrators of these gruesome murders will be brought to book,” said Bulwane in a statement.
He urged different stakeholders to come together and fight the gruesome crimes, saying farm killings threaten food security and leave those who depend on the very same farmers for employment vulnerable.
In the latest attack which happened in Hennenman, Pieter Hills was found dead on his farm while his son escaped with injuries after being stabbed on his back by unknown attackers.
According to the police, the domestic worker at the farm made the gruesome finding after she was called by the deceased’s wife who was worried because she had tried in vain to get hold of her husband and son.
Police are now investigating a case of murder, attempted murder and robbery.
The son of the diseased farmer is being treated at a nearby hospital.
Earlier this week, Tebogo Machakela, 37, succumbed to his injuries from an attack that occurred at his farm in Odendaalsrus in August.
Machakela was brutally attacked and shot by a group of unknown assailants.
In another incident, a 60-year-old farmer, Dave Wessels, from Viljoenskroon was found dead in his bedroom late last month in a suspected robbery.
