A 30-year-old man and his friend aged 26 have appeared in the Bultfontein Magistrates Court facing a charge of killing a minor.
Tshidiso Molefi, who is a stepfather to the deceased, and Lerato Nkenjani Joseph Ramakhala made their initial appearance on Monday and the case was postponed to allow them to secure legal representation.
The pair made will return to court on September 4.
Molefi and Nkenjani were arrested after a minor was mysteriously killed after leaving home to visit her grandmother who lived just a few hundred meters away in Phahameng township in the small farming town of Bultfontein.
Last month, The Free Stater reported that a 13-year-old girl from the town was found dead after she left home to visit her grandmother who lives about 400 meters from her home.
The girl’s age has since been confirmed to be 11.
The minor’s body was found the following day next to the R708 highway near Phahameng township.
The body was discovered by a member of the community.
Police said the victim was found with her hands and legs fastened with a wire which seemed to have been used to strangle her.
She also had some blood stains on her face.
It is yet to be established if she was sexually abused during the attack.
