A body believed to be that of a man wanted by Zamdela police in connection with the alleged killing of his wife and two sons has been found hanging in an open field in Sasolburg.
Police spokesperson Sam Makhele said in a statement released Tuesday that he was found hanging on a tree early in the morning.
“A body believed to be of . . . Andrew Mpho Mokhoro who was wanted with regard to this triple murder case was found hanging in a tree behind an industrial area in an open veld in Sasolburg,” he said.
Makhele said Mokhoro, 42, had not been seen since the alleged killings about two weeks ago and police were eager to question him to establish any possible involvement.
“An inquest docket will be opened with regard to the discovery of the body of this suspect, and no foul play is suspected thus far,” the provincial police spokesperson said.
The wife, Mmakantoro Mmakantoro Mofokeng, 37, and her two sons, Khothatso, nine, and Karabo, two, were found killed in their house in Zamdela township on May 17.
Police say they all appeared to have been brutally stabbed with a sharp object.
It is believed they had been killed on the evening of May 16 or in the early hours of the following day.
A 16-year-old boy who was said to be in the house when the incident occurred was however unharmed.
