Bethlehem and Batho police stations which were recently closed for decontamination after some police officers tested positive for COVID-19 have been re-opened.
Free State provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane announced Tuesday that the two police stations are now fully operational and the public can now access services at these centres.
“All health protocols have since been followed and the affected members have been quarantined or isolated accordingly,” Motswenyane said in a statement.
She said the Bethlehem police station started operating last Wednesday while Batho opened its doors on Monday.
The management of the South African Police Service in the province provisionally closed the stations so that the facilities could be decontaminated.
Motswenyane said all primary and secondary contacts of the positive members have been tested and are back at work after they received their results and those still awaiting their results remain in self isolation.
The police chief expressed gratitude towards various stakeholders who allowed the police to utilise their facilities as temporary police stations.
“I appreciate the unwavering good gesture which was displayed by these stakeholders in providing us with space to render services at their respective facilities,” she said.
“We will definitely need help in other parts of the province should it become necessary to close other police stations due to members becoming affected by the virus.
“Our members are on the forefront and are susceptible to contracting the virus.”
