Free State Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane has bemoaned brutal attacks on women following the recent discovery of a woman’s body in a bushy area in Bethlehem.
The incident brings to two the number of women killed over the weekend after another woman, 37, was found murdered together with her two sons aged nine and two at her house in Zamdela township in Sasolburg.
“The killing of women can and will not be tolerated,” Motswenyane was quoted as saying in a statement issued by provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Sam Makhele.
She appealed to anyone with information to assist the police so that the killers could be brought to book.
According to the police, the woman’s body was discovered at a secluded area near a place commonly known as Shaves in Bohlokong township in the eastern Free State town of Bethlehem.
“A passerby discovered the deceased in the morning of Friday 15 May 2020 and alerted the police. The deceased was found lying on her back naked with her clothes around her. She had bruises on her body and an open wound to the head,” said the police.
A family member positively identified the deceased as Mohanoa Victoria Moloi, aged 49.
The motive for the killing remains unknown.
In the Sasolburg case, police want to question the woman’s husband in connection with the alleged triple murder.
While he is not being treated as a suspect in the case, the man has not been seen since the discovery of the three lifeless bodies on Sunday morning.
A 16-year-old boy who said to be in the house when the incident occurred was however left unharmed.
