Police in Sasolburg in the northern Free State want to question a man after his wife and two children were found dead this Sunday morning in their home in Zamdela township.
Free State provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Sam Makhele told The Free Stater in a brief telephone interview that the man has not been seen since the discovery of the alleged murder and police are keen to question him about the incident.
“The man is not being treated as a suspect in the alleged killing but police would like to question him to establish what he knows about it,” he said.
In an earlier statement, Makhele said the police were called to a house in Extension 3 in Zamdela township early in the morning.
“. . . on arrival they found the body of a female and two kids in the bedroom. All the deceased appeared to have been stabbed with a sharp object,” read part of the statement.
According to the statement, preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased, a 37-years-old mother and her two children, both boys aged nine and two, were killed between 10pm on Saturday and 5am this Sunday morning.
“A 16-year-old boy who was also in the house at the time of the incident was unharmed,” the statement added.
“The husband was not found at the house and the police are still trying to trace his whereabouts.”
Makhele appealed to anyone with information to contact police in Zamdela or call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
He said information can also be sent via the MySAPS App.
