Deputy President David Mabuza is this morning expected to conduct an oversight visit at a Free State municipality.

A statement issued by the presidency said his visit to Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality in Phuthaditjhaba, QwaQwa, is the second service delivery visit since the commitment made by the deputy president to parliament to intervene in service delivery hotspots.

Mabuza will be accompanied by Premier Sisi Ntombela, Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation Minister Lindiwe Sisulu, the Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Fikile Majola, as well as senior local government officials.

“The issues that were raised in parliament by various political parties were related to electricity and water disruption due to the debt owed by the Maluti-a-Phofung Municipality to Eskom,” read part of the statement.

“The visit by the deputy president forms part of support interventions by the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Service Delivery.”

Mabuza will visit the Ha-Rankopane Resevoir as part of his oversight exercise.

“Water supply has been one of the affected areas of delivery due to power interruptions,” the statement said.

“In this regard, the deputy president and ministers are expected to visit one of the affected water projects in the delivery of water to residents in the municipality.”

The visit, according to the statement, also falls within the context of the District Development Model for accelerated, aligned and integrated service delivery that seeks to promote urgent turnaround strategies for municipalities experiencing challenges.
