Services at the Mangaung Metro head office, Bram Fischer Building, are expected to resume Tuesday after it was closed today for decontamination following a COVID-19 case.

A statement released by municipal spokesperson Qondile Khedama said they received confirmation over the weekend that an official working in the building had tested positive for the acute respiratory disease.

“As the city, we have in line with the COVID-19 health regulations and our internal toolkit closed the building for decontamination processes,” he said in the statement.

Operations at all other regional offices of the city were not affected by the disruption.

“Members of the community are discouraged from frequenting (municipal) offices unless it’s necessary,” Khedama said.

Mangaung Metro remains the provincial epicentre of the disease – it recorded 346 new cases yesterday from the 794 reported in the province.

Elsewhere, Fezile Dabi District recorded 133 new cases, Thabo Mofutsanyana 91, Lejweleputswa 195 and Xhariep 23, while six were unaccounted for.

The Free State now has 23 099 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 10 149 recoveries.

About 243 people have succumbed to the coronavirus disease, putting the provincial case fatality rate at 1.1 percent.

Prevalence among persons aged less than 20 years is 11.2 percent or 2 587.

At least 60 percent or 13 721 of those infected are females, but 51.4 percent or 125 of the deaths have been recorded among males.
