The Bloemfontein Magistrates Court this week postponed a case against Michele Antia Mpambani, 36, to June 22 after she was charged for tax fraud and failure to pay tax.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says Mpambani was charged together with her company, 605 Consulting Solution (Pty) Ltd, for allegedly defrauding the South African Revenue Services (SARS) of approximately R6.2 million.
NPA regional spokesperson Phaladi Shuping said Mpambani is facing a total of 31 charges that include four counts of fraud, 12 counts of failure to submit a company VAT 201 return, one count of failure to submit company income tax (ITR 14) and 14 counts of failure to submit pay-as-you-earn returns.
“The state alleges, with regard to fraud charges, that between March 2016 and February 2018, Mpambani submitted zero return on behalf of 605 Consulting Solutions as if the company did not trade in that period, whereas the company traded and it was supposed to pay to SARS an amount of R3 341 000,” said Shuping in a statement.
On charges relating to failure to pay tax, the state, according to Shuping, alleges that Mpambani failed to furnish, file or submit VAT returns from May 2020 until November 2020.
The returns were supposed to be furnished showing that the company was due to pay tax of about R2 866 000.
“The state alleges that as a result of these misrepresentations, Mpambani prejudiced SARS to the amount of R6 207 000,” he explained.
When she appeared in court on Tuesday, Mpambani was released on warning as the case was postponed for her to sort out her legal representation and get copies of the docket supplied. – Staff Reporter
