Three suspects have been arrested on charges of common assault and malicious damage to property after they allegedly attacked a teacher at Setjhaba se Maketse Combined School in Botshabelo.
The suspects were arrested on Thursday night.
Two of the suspects are believed to be parents of a Grade 11 learner at the school who teamed up with their daughter to attack the teacher.
Police spokesperson in the Mangaung metro Lieutenant Colonel Thabo Covane said the learner is believed to have had problems with the teacher while in class earlier in the day on Thursday and the parents were called.
“The father of the child . . . and (a woman) arrived,” Covane said in a statement.
“It is said that the two parents and the learner confronted the teacher when he walked out of the classroom calling him a demon and even throwing death threats at him.
“The three attacked the teacher and the school laptop fell down to the ground.
“A case of common assault with an additional charge of malicious damage to property was opened at Botshabelo Police Station.”
The adults, both aged 42, spent the night in police custody.
The learner was released into the care of a guardian according to the Child Justice Act 75 of 2008.
The three suspects were expected to appear in the Botshabelo Magistrates Court today.
