A Clocolan man and his wife are behind bars after they were arrested on Sunday for allegedly selling dangerous drugs to a 12-year-old child.
Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Sam Makhele said two off-duty police officers from the small farming town pursued the couple after receiving word that someone had just sold drugs to the minor.
Makhele said the child’s parents and some community members responded swiftly and teamed up with the police officers as they followed up on the information to Extension 6 in Hlohlolwane, Clocolan.
“The members searched the house and found dagga weighing 10kg and 27 drug tablets called skanka and ndanda,” said Makhele in a statement.
The drugs were valued at R16 0000 and the couple was also found with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The man, aged 26, and his wife, 24, were arrested for dealing in drugs and will appear before the Clocolan Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, four suspects aged between 30 and 42 years old are expected to appear in the Welkom Magistrates Court after they were arrested yesterday for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
The suspects were arrested at about 4pm following an intervention by Park Road Police Tactical Response Team.
The team is said to have received a tip-off about a group travelling from Gauteng to Welkom that was in possession of firearms.
The police were also informed that the alleged suspects were driving a white Hyundai Matrix with GP registration.
They were then traced and intercepted along Chopin Street in Reebeckstad, Welkom.
The vehicle as well as the four occupants in the vehicle were searched and two unlicensed firearms, a 38 special revolver and a 9mm pistol with serial numbers filed off, were found and confiscated.
The suspects, who are from different parts of Gauteng, were immediately arrested.
