Mangaung Metro Municipality is warning residents there could be disruptive storms on Tuesday afternoon which could result in flooding in some parts of the city.
This follows an earlier cautionary statement issued by the South African Weather Service (SAWS) in which it forecast heavy storms from about 2pm to 11pm.
The SAWS has called the cautionary statement an “Impact-Based Warning Level 2 for Disruptive Rain”.
“Localised flash-flooding can be expected in low-lying areas, roads and informal settlements,” Managung said in a statement issued by municipal spokesperson Qondile Khedama.
“This could also result in difficult driving conditions due to reduced visibility.
“All road users are expected to take extra caution . . . reduce speed, switch on the headlights, pedestrians should be careful when crossing the road and avoid crossing rivers and streams where water is above your ankles.”
Households have also been urged to make pathways to allow water to flow out of their yards and avoid flooding.
