Just a day after being reopened following the completion of the decontamination process, Mangaung police station has been closed again after three officers tested positive for COVID-19.
A brief statement from the police said the station will be decontaminated once again and all staff will be screened while others might have to be tested in line with the health protocols.
“Three more members tested positive for COVID-19 . . . at Mangaung SAPS which led to the police station being closed again,” read part of the statement.
“The community serviced by Mangaung police station (is) advised that the police station will undergo decontamination and members will be subjected to necessary COVID-19 related protocols.
“Any complaints and incidents can be reported at nearest police stations, such as Heidedal, Kagisanong and Batho.
The statement added that residents should use 10111 as the Mangaung telephone numbers will not be reachable.
Meanwhile, the Free State Department of Police, Roads and Transport has closed the Lengau Testing and Traffic Centre in Bloemfontein following a COVID-19 case at the facility.
In a statement, the department’s spokesperson Hillary Mophethe said the centre will remain closed until further notice.
“All officials at the centre will undergo screening and testing before they return to their work stations,” she said.
“All members of the public who had appointments for learners’ and driving tests will be contacted in due course to reschedule (their) dates.”
Mophete said other urgent matters such as the renewal of motor vehicle licences can be done at nearby licensing centres or at the Post Office.
Mangaung remains the province’s COVID-19 epicentre with over 345 cases.
The Free State has about 1 279 confirmed cases of the disease.
